WFPC2 Photometry from Subtraction of Observed PSFs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Based on observed PSFs from the WFPC2 calibration programs, a series of PSF subtraction tests have been performed and the resulting photometry analyzed. We find that using a composite observed PSF, constructed from optimally selected PSFs based on location and breathing values, yields single photometric values affected by an RMS dispersion of about 0.01–0.02 mag. While resampling does not appear to have much of an effect on the photometric results, the color of the PSF employed is important.

WFPC2 Photometry from Subtraction of TinyTim PSFs
Based upon the subtraction of TinyTim PSFs from PC1 point-like objects, a method has been developed to determine the optimal values for the telescope jitter and the Z4 relative focus during calibration or science observations. Using these jitter and focus values, an optimal TinyTim PSF, computed over a resampled grid, is then iteratively fitted to the object, yielding an improvement in the PSF ...
متن کاملWFPC2 Stellar Photometry with HSTphot
HSTphot, a photometry package designed to handle the undersampled PSFs found in WFPC2 images, is introduced and described, as well as some of the considerations that have to be made in order to obtain accurate PSF-fitting stellar photometry with WFPC2 data. Tests of HSTphot’s internal reliability are made using multiple observations of the same field, and tests of external reliability are made ...
متن کاملWfpc2 Ghosts, Scatter, and Psf Field Dependence
Scattered light and ghosts in WFPC2 images are discussed, with emphasis on their eeects on imaging of faint objects near bright ones. Scattering within about two arcseconds is primarily due to diiraction eeects from zonal errors in the HST optics. At larger angles, the main source of light is scattering from the CCD surface. Also, a number of ghosts are present in WFPC2. Some of these may be mi...
متن کاملThe Dependence of WFPC2 Charge Transfer Efficiency on Background Illumination
We have examined the charge transfer efficiency (CTE) of WFPC2's CCDs near the end of mission as a function of background illumination. Internal lamps were used to flash the CCDs before or after external exposures of ! Cen to produce average background signals of 0–160 e. These signals span the natural sky backgrounds observed in ~99% of archived WFPC2 science images. Most of the stellar flux l...
متن کاملHST Photometry of Dense Globular
It is shown that in very crowded elds, such as the cores of globular clusters, aperture pho-tometry of subsampled-deconvolved HST/WFPC2 images gives statistically better results than any of the following DAOPHOT-II reductions of the original data: aperture photometry, proole-tting photometry, and the hybrid method of aperture photometry on neighbour-subtracted images. Furthermore , the deconvol...
